Mirva Kuvaja

I'm a textile artist from Turku, Finland. My work is sculptural textile and fiber art, constructed from unusual and often recycled materials and found objects, using traditional techniques such as weaving. Often I am inspired by jewellery art and many of my pieces are also wearable, obtaining an extra dimension from the human body. As my education is also in marine biology, it follows that forms and processes from the aquatic world are a source of inspiration to me. I also do web- and graphic design projects and illustration commissions, that combine hand drawing/painting and digital techniques.

I write a blog called 'Fiber Field Notes' about my creative process and am a member of the Left Overs trash design collective. Check out also my Etsy shop called Noctuary Art, where I sell some of my art products. You can also find me on Instagram under @tundrakuikka
